Quick guide for better food Instagrams

by Annie Sullivan

As an avid Instagram user and food-loving friend myself, I have discovered a couple tips to keep in mind while photographing food for Instagram. Here they are:

1. Whenever possible, use natural light instead of flash

  •  Harsh light – i.e., that obnoxious flash on your iPhone – tends to do bad things to food

2. Don’t go too crazy with effects

  • Beautiful food, like portraits, should be treated delicately

3. Always be ready

  • Ever see the sudden blaze of fire at a Hibachi grill?

4. Remember it’s just food

  • Don’t make your friends wait until their food gets cold to eat because you need “the perfect shot”
