Get Prepared: Best Places to Buy Your Gear

Story by Abby Smith

In Orange County there is no shortage of retail stores. Here are 3 great locations to buy everything you need to prepare for your day in the outdoors.

REI

REI stands for Recreational Equipment. REI has a variety of products ranging form high-end rock climbing gear to simple hiking backpacks.

The store is perfect if you are looking for some higher end gear that will last for a very long time. A plus side of REI is their membership.

With just a $20 onetime fee members are able to get discounts, opportunities to go one REI adventure trips, as well as buy goods at the REI Used Gear Sale.

REI employees are knowledgeable and will assist you in making the best purchase for your needs.

Dick’s Sporting Goods

Dick’s Sporting Goods is a much more low-key sports store. Aside from camping and hiking gear Dick’s also has your typical sports equipment such as basketballs and baseball bats.

Dick’s employees may not be as knowledgeable as REI workers when it comes to camping and hiking gear, however they are helpful and will always try to assist you in getting the best bang for your buck.

Target

Target is a one-stop-shop for almost everything. Though the quality may not be great Target offers a wide variety of water bottles, backpacks and athletic clothing.

The one thing that differentiates Target from a sporting goods store is their food and toiletries inventory.  Target is the perfect place to buy snacks and sunscreen two imperative things for a day in the outdoors.

Being unprepared can ruin any outdoor adventure, so if you don’t own your own gear invest the time and money needed to have the perfect day out.
