Being Vulnerable in a Relationship

by Jack Jajewski

Not all relationships leave men in a place where they can’t access feelings. Sophomore strategic and corporate communication major Ashley Cooper has been dating her boyfriend for five years, and the two have developed a strong emotional bond. He is able to open up completely with her now, but this wasn’t always the case.

“He had a really hard time understanding how he felt about himself, so he had a hard time telling me about it,” Cooper said. “He was trying to figure out his masculinity.”

Now, he regularly calls whenever anything emotional comes up, and has broken down crying multiple times in front of Cooper before. In fact, she said that though he rarely cries, when he does it’s in front of her. The only time he doesn’t bring up his emotions to her right away is when he’s taking time to figure out how he feels about something first.
