Beauties and Beasts: Challenging the Traditional Fairy Tale

By Danielle James

Beauties and Beasts is a Freshman Foundations Course that explores the traditional fairy tales and looks at the various versions of classics such as Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast, including the Disney version through various lenses, such as the feminist theory.

Taught by Professor Justine Van Meter, this class takes an in-depth look into how the class fairy tale gets translated across cultures and time periods through literature, film, and critical analysis.
